5. In Pot We Trust

Easily the most heavy of the films to watch as it deals primarily with medicinal marijuana patients and how it helps them with their serious illnesses.

Watching this movie brought out some mixed feelings for me seeing how there are people out there suffering to the degree that the do and use marijuana as a way to help while I’m sitting here smoking a bowl just because i like being high?

Made me feel a-little awkward (didn’t stop me smoking more pot though :P), but setting that aside it really is a incredible documentary to watch.

All the patients in the documentary suffer from serious ailments, they sort of stuff you cant cure you just have to live with. The way you see how marijuana helps these people is undeniable from a women who can hardly put a sentence together suddenly putting together long strings speech after smoking a bowl.

Or even high level accounts who’s muscles tear when they are moved and his story of how he has 300 joints supplied by the government every single month.

Anyone who watches this film will not be able to deny the medicinal benefits of marijuana any longer, as well most people start to change their opinion of it entirely.

In Pot we trust isn’t really a entertaining watch but it is interesting even if you feel some what bummed after wards its one everyone who loves their herb should watch.

4. Grass: The History of Marijuana

One of my all time favorites, its short, very well done, gives you a great deal on in-site into how Marijuana and hemp exactly became illegal.

You will scream “What the fuck!” at your poor defenseless tv in rage over what you see and shortly be giggling your ass off later.

The best thing about this documentary though is that it is very easy watching with alot of visual effects, small snippets and great narrating.

If you’ve got an hour to kill give it a go.

3. How Weed Won The West

This is the latest documentary actually released this year its information is probably the most up to date in terms of the laws in America and deals alot with the Dispensaries in California.

Being South African that side of that doesn’t really have the same kind of value to me that it would to some-one there but i can honestly say it shocked and disgusted me at how the D.E.A handled many of the situations there like shooting the one guys dog! (the dog survives though thank goodness), bringing down a entire strike team on Tommy Chong and his family just because he lent his name to a bong company! And lastly just how deluded people really are when it comes to Marijuana.

Setting the heavy stuff aside though you still get lots on information on Cannabis, hemp and again it’s medicinal value.

They interview many dispensary owners as well and also show the love many growers or owners have for their trade.

2. Doug Benson’s Super High Me

Many people will know Doug Benson as a outstanding pot comic, rated the number 2 pot comic by VH1 in the time of the making of the film.

This is a direct rip off of Super Size me with Doug putting himself through not smoking anything for thirty straight days and then for the next thirty days going balls to the smoking himself sideways to see how differently he is affected.

He gets put through everything from a test to see if he is physic to how well he scores on Esta’s and even health examinations, along with some snippets from him preforming on stage both sober and totally blazed the documentary is a ton of fun to watch!
……. especially if your blazed aswell :P

Fair enough its not nearly as informative as the rest of the films on this list but its a great in site into whether marijuana is as harmful as many claim it to be.

1. The Union: The Bussiness Behind Getting High

Easily the greatest Marijuana documentary iv seen in terms of how much you learn, take away and enjoy watching, for me nothing has come close to this even if much of the info regarding dispensaries has changed.
This documentary stands out amongst the rest mainly because it touches on all sides of the Marijuana argument and industry not just the medicinal side of it.

While you do see the medicinal side and get a very brief overview of marijuana’s history in this film as the title states its got a huge portion on how this underground business is actual run, and how with a world against it it continues to flourish.

Many current growers & clippers aswell as ex-growers appear on camera to be interviewed, two of the ex-growers being the most interesting of the lot and you get to see a grow operation in progress.

They investigate a busted grow operation as well which took place underground in 20 full sized train carts, now that’s a lot of weed.

Everything about this documentary is top class from the people they interview, to the visuals they use as well as having probably one of the most beautiful pieces of music iv heard in my life in the opening.

Overall they are all worth watching, all enjoyable and most of all make you understand, love and respect Cannabis even more.
